The CSI and CID compact source lamps from Thorn Lighting proved extremely popular in the professional studio lighting business during the 1970s and 1980s, primarily on account of their very compact dimensions by comparison with the alternative state of the art. Such types of compact source lamp were traditionally always made in the double ended format, which resulted in large lamps that were not so easy to mount in an optical system.

Thorn, or rather its predecessor AEI-Mazda, was responsible for developing the first single ended metal halide arc tubes with only one pinch-seal. The first lamp in the family was the 400W Compact Source Iodide (CSI), developed primarily as a technical light source for special projection.

In recognition of its potential for general lighting, the more powerful 1000W version on this page soon followed. It proved especially popular in high performance exterior floodlighting applications, and it was developed in conjunction with Thorn's SunSpot floodlights, which acted as the outer jacket for the lamp. They served to stabilise its wall temperature at higher levels than would be attained in free air, such that maximum performance from the lamp would be achieved.

A significant advantage of this single ended lamp was its compact dimensions and the ease with which it could be mounted through a small hole in the back of the reflector, achieving a precise, narrow beam of phenomenal intensity from an unusually compact luminaire. A later development was the sealed beam PAR64 version of this lamp which achieved longer lifetime and further improved beam control.

The Cameo CLSB6D is the professional solution for configuring DMX networks. The splitter and booster in 19" format amplifies the DMX input signal and distributes it to 6 electrically isolated outputs. It is connected directly to the DMX controller or to DMX devices. The input and the THRU socket for looping of the signal are duplicated on the front and back of the CLSB6D and connected in parallel. Bright LEDs show the DMX and power status of the channels on the front panel, the outputs are located on the back. A switchable 120 Ohm terminating resistor on the DMX THRU output and the power switch complete the equipment; the IEC-cable is supplied.
